In 1520 Denmark’s King Christian executed more than 80 people on Stortorget. Blood ran down the gutters into the waters around the island.

Now, in Baggen’s cellar, a stone’s throw from where the massacre took place, you can experience the horror of the tragedy and the passion that lay behind it. This new play focuses on the three major players in the drama – Denmark’s King Christian, Kristina Gyllenstierna, the woman who has led Stockholm’s defence, and Gustav Trolle, once Sweden’s Archbishop but who lost his title and was imprisoned as a traitor. Revenge, lust and pure malice combine to pull the city down into the pits of hell. Or is the truth that something from hell is approaching the surface?
