Strings N´Drums in Resonance är ett samarbetsprojekt mellan fransk-brasilianska  tonsättaren och gitarristen
Aurelio Edler-Copes och den klassiska gitarristen och kompositören Sebastián Caldas Zeballos.

Projektet har stöd från Konstnärsnämnden och har som mål att utveckla och förmedla den nutida gitarrmusikrepertoaren som t ex ett improvisatoriskt verk för två gitarrer och candombe, trummor som spelar av sig själva och interagerar med musikerna.

AURÉLIO EDLER–COPES

Brazilian composer and guitarist living in Paris, Aurélio Edler-Copes's work is recognised for its intensity, dynamism and considerable dramatic force. His artistic research has led him to merge electric and acoustic instruments, creating new real-time electronics set-ups whilst

integrating electronics, video and light in his musical writing.

A highly active creator, he collaborates regularly with prestigious soloists and ensembles (Ensemble Intercontemporain, Klangforum Wien, Musikfabrik, Quatuor Diotima, Quatuor Béla, Nieuw Ensemble, L'Itinéraire, Mosaik, Vortex, Orchestras of São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Bilbao, Euskadi, Lorraine, et al.) and has received some thirty international composition prizes, in particular the New Forum Jeune Création Prize, the "Premio de Roma" of the Spanish Foreign Affairs Ministry, and the Georges Wildenstein Prize of the French Académie de Beaux Arts. He has been composer in residence at the Royal Academy of Spain in Rome, the Casa de

Velázquez–Académie de France in Madrid, and KulturKontakt–Federal Chancellery of Austria, in Vienna. He has also worked in residence at the GRAME studios in Lyon, GMEM in Marseilles, and SCRIME in Bordeaux, as well as the Phonos Foundation in Barcelona and the Royaumont Foundation. In addition, he was associate composer with the Compagnie Éclats in Bordeaux from 2013 to 2015. In the year 2017-2018 he will be composer in residence of the Ensemble Taller Sonoro in Seville.

Aurélio Edler-Copes earned a bachelor degree in guitar with Daniel Wolff at the Universida de Federal do Rio Grande do Sul—UFRGS, Brazil, and in composition with Gabriel Erkoreka at the Centro Superior de Música del País Basco—Musikene. He also earned a master's in

composition and musical theater with Georges Aperghis at the Hochschule der Künste Bern—HKB, Switzerland, and completed his training in the Cursus of Composition and Computer Music at IRCAM–Centre Pompidou in Paris. His works are published by Babel

SEBASTIÁN CALDAS ZEBALLOS

 

Sebastian Caldas Zeballos was born in Uruguay in 1977. He moved to Sweden at the age of two.

He started playing classical guitar in Malmö at the age of nine and knew very early that he would dedicate the rest of his life to music. His formal education was first in Spain where he studied with maestro Marco Socias at Musikene, the Higher School of Music of the Basque Country. There he got a Higher Diploma in Music with classical guitar as specialty i prize in the International Guitar Competition of Azpiazu in the duos modality, in San Sebastián, Spain.

He has got master degree from Piteå Musikhögskola at the Master Program in Music Performance with Jan-Olof Eriksson.

Sebastián Caldas Zeballos has recorded two solo albums with the label Daphne, distributed by Naxos, both with very good reviews from the Swedish musical  press. (read below).

Sebastián Caldas Zeballos has received three grants from the Swedish Arts Grants Committee and one from Musikverket.

The Swedish-Uruguayan guitarist is very interested in working across genres and barriers.

His project Moving Horizons, a collaboration with percussionists from the Candombe tradition has toured in Scandinavia and South America.

In 2016 Caldas took the project to a new level with the “ Moving Horizons meets Anty Ram trio”, working with musicians who use improvisation as their main means of expression. The ensemble played in Oslo, the Copenhagen Jazz Festival, Stockholm, Malmö , and Borås.

Nowruz, Sebastián Caldas Zeballos’ newest album, has been praised by the Swedish Guitar and Lute magazine for being a reference in Scandinavia for Latin American guitar music, as well as for being innovative in collaborating with musicians from other traditions.

In 2017 Caldas toured Uruguay and Argentina with the “ Moving Horizons meets Anty Ram trio” funded by the Swedish Arts Grants Committee.

Year 2018 Sebastián Caldas got granted from Swedish Arts Grants Committee to make a tour in Scandinavia together with Uruguayan tango singer Maia Castro and Horacio di Yorio.

This year Caldas is recording his third solo album with own compositions and arrangements inspired in the Uruguayan folk and candombe tradition.
